Tourists, international students and business travelers could be required to pay a $250 fee when visiting the United States on a nonimmigrant visa, The Hill reports.
The new provision applies only to visitors from countries that require a nonimmigrant visa to enter, as outlined in the “big, beautiful” spending bill signed by US President Donald Trump.
Among those countries is Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose citizens must have a visa to enter the US.
The cost of a visa for our country’s citizens is at least $185 for a tourist visa, while other categories, such as a temporary work visa, cost more than $200. A “visa integrity fee” will increase the cost by an additional $250.
Visitors can get a refund if they comply with the terms of their visa in accordance with the law, while those who are denied entry will not be charged this fee.
However, the provision states that the fee is mandatory and cannot be waived.
No exact date has been announced for the start of this “visa integrity fee.” Starting in 2026, the $250 fee could increase in line with inflation.
